Battery engineers are responsible for the design, development and testing of batteries used in a variety of products, from phones to cars. They work with chemists and other engineers to create new battery technologies and improve existing ones. Requirements for becoming a battery engineer include a bachelor’s degree in engineering and experience with batteries or electrical engineering. Job growth in this field is expected to be about average in the next decade.
As a Battery Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- developing and improving battery technology
- researching new battery materials
- testing prototypes and working on improving manufacturing processes
- test new battery designs to ensure they meet customer requirements
- develop documentation and training materials for production staff
- liaise with suppliers and customers as well as other departments within the company
- managing projects
- communicating with clients
- writing reports
