A battery technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of batteries used in a variety of devices, from cars to laptops. They must have strong technical skills and be able to troubleshoot problems quickly. Training and education for battery technicians can be obtained through a variety of programs, including associate’s degree and certification programs. Battery technicians work in a variety of settings, including auto shops, battery stores, and other businesses that sell or service batteries. They may also work in warehouses and manufacturing plants that produce batteries.
Responsibilities of a Battery Technician:
- Testing batteries to ensure they are working properly
- Diagnosing issues and replacing damaged parts
- Inspecting batteries for damage and wear
- Cleaning and maintaining batteries
- Resembling units
- Perform basic electrical repairs
- Documenting battery repair and maintenance activities
- Sell new batteries to customers
Requirements for a Battery Technician:
- a degree in electrical engineering or a related field (preferred but not required)
- excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- strong technical skills
- good problem-solving skills
- being able to work independently
- being able to communicate effectively with customers or clients
- being able to identify different types of batteries, as well as their specific functions and features
- be able to use diagnostic tools
- be able to safely handle and dispose of lead-acid batteries
- complete a certified training program before being hired
- previous experience working with batteries
