A technical buyer is an important role in the IT, EV and Gigafactory sectors. Their main responsibility is to liaise between suppliers and customers to ensure that the correct products are being supplied and that they meet customer requirements. The job of a technical buyer is to evaluate supplier proposals, request quotes and negotiate prices. They will also place orders with suppliers, monitor delivery timescales and chase up any late deliveries. In some cases, they may also be responsible for quality control.

As a Technical Buyer in the IT, EV, and Gigafactory sectors, you will be responsible for:

  • sourcing and procuring a variety of equipment and materials (everything from servers and networking equipment to batteries and electric motors)
  • working closely with suppliers to ensure that the products you purchase meet the high standards required by your company
  • negotiating prices and terms with suppliers
  • managing inventory levels
  • researching and selecting vendors
  • place orders with suppliers
  • monitor delivery timescales and chase up any late deliveries
  • quality control
  • providing support to your company’s engineering and production teams

Technical Buyer Job Requirements:

  • having a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field
  • have several years of experience working in procurement or a related field
  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • strong understanding of the products or services they are procuring
  • the ability to negotiate favorable terms with vendors
